ART DECO and Newton Heath were the surprise packages of Saturday’s Blue Riband Cup First Round action as they upset the odds to send Premier Division Rosemount and Drumahoe tumbling out of the competition.

In all only nine of the scheduled ties were completed with two games lost to the weather and one game because of a bereavement. In the other ties that were played Benbradagh Colts defeated Culmore, Brandywell Celtic enjoyed a good win over Tristar and Phoenix Swifts had a routine win over Oakleaf Celtic.

First Division side Oxford United knocked-out Championship side Strabane Athletic while Gransha Institute had a good win over HML and Collon Celtic came from 3-1 down at the break to defeat Hatmore Harps.In the last of the cup action, Du Pont had an easy win over Foyle Athletic.
