CELTIC midfielder Paddy McCourt probably should have known better having experienced life at the Brandywell Stadium!
Dressed in only a large bath towel, the former Derry City star entered the home dressing room at Berwick Rangers’ Shielfield Park at the weekend following the fourth round Scottish Cup tie, to enquire if there was any hot water in their showers because it had run out in the ‘away’ facilities!
The ‘Derry Pele,’ who is enjoying life in the fast-lane at luxurious Celtic Park these days, a far cry from the Lone Moor Road facilities he experienced with the ‘Candy Stripes,’ was met with a less than sympathetic reply: “Welcome to life at Berwick Rangers!”
However, the chill McCourt was clearly feeling was nothing compared to the icy blast which would have hit both he and his teammates if Celtic had not defeated the Third Division side and thus avoided another damaging cup exit, something McCourt experienced first hand last season when losing to Ross County in the semi-final of the competition at Hampden Park.
The Shantallow man will be anxious to maintain his place in the starting line-up as the ‘Hoops’ attempt to extend their lead at the top of the SPL to seven points when they travel across Glasgow to Hamilton tomorrow night for their third away games over the past ten days.
