Reigning Pat Harkin Summer Cup champions, Top of the Hill Celtic will open the defence of their title this week in the pick of the first round ties of the 2012 tournament.

The Waterside men meet Intermediate League side, Oxford United Stars, in the Brandywell Showgrounds in what promises to be an excellent contest this Thursday night. (Kick-off 7.00 p.m.)

The tournament is enjoying its 34th year and Top of the Hill Celtic will be vying for their fourth Pat Harkin Cup victory, however, it will be a difficult opening fixture against an Oxford side with a healthy mixture of youth and experience.

Before that, last year’s defeated finalists, cup kingpins, Telstar Colts will entertain Denny’s Select from Clooney tonight (Tuesday) in another first round tie.

Last week’s first round fixtures were called off by Derry City Council due to the inclement weather. The Strabane v. Three Flowers game will now be played on Tuesday next, May 22nd while the match involving Don Bosco’s and Westbank United will be played on Wednesday, May 23rd which will conclude the first round matches.
