Derry City striker, Rory Patterson, will have mixed emotions following this demolition of Welsh Premier League side, Aberystwyth Town, in this Europa League tie at the Brandywell.

A combination of poor finishing and, indeed, a superb performance by the Welsh side’s reserve keeper, Philip Draper, combined to deny the Derry hitman.

Derry dominated from the start and when Patrick McEleney broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, the Welsh club’s game-plan had been scuppered.

However, the turning point arrived in the 22nd minute when the visitors were dealt a killer blow when conceding a penalty and had keeper Michael Lewis sent off.

Patterson made it 2-0 before Mark Timlin added a third in the second half and Barry McNamee ended the rout five minutes from the end.
