DERRY CITY have been dealt a major blow with the news that experienced defender, Aaron Barry has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Co. Wicklow man has been struggling with a troublesome hip injury from early in the season and is set to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.

It’s a huge blow. And it’s disappointing for him especially if we keep going in the cup. It’ll be hard for him.

Derry City boss, Kenny Shiels who confirmed the extent of the defender’s injury last night, admits the news comes as a ‘huge blow’ for his team who travel to Wexford tomorrow ahead of Friday’s FAI Cup quarter-final.

With skipper, Ryan McBride also ruled out through injury and new signing, Max Karner also sidelined for the game, Shiels will once again be struggling for defensive cover for the game at Ferrycarrig Park.

“Aaron is out for the season,” confirmed Shiels. “It’s a huge blow. And it’s disappointing for him especially if we keep going in the cup. It’ll be hard for him.”
