Derry Colts suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Glentoran in their second match of the season at Thornhill College on Saturday.
However, Colts manager, Greg McKeever insists there were plenty of positives from the display and that the result wasn’t a true reflection on the game. McKeever was pleased with the chances his side created.
“We played some great football and overall I’m happy with our build-up play but we must start taking the chances and cut out our defensive errors. We are learning all the time but we are playing in a top quality league and if you make mistakes you will get punished.”
Colts started brightly and Keenan Diver forced the impressive Glens’ keeper into a stunning double save to keep the game scoreless.
However, a minute before the break the Glentoran striker was sent one-on-one with Kelly in the Colts goal and the striker made no mistake.
After the break another lapse in concentration allowed Glentoran to double their lead and five minutes from time they sealed the points with a cracking drive from the edge of the box.
