AS Derry City focus their attentions on this Monday night’s Setanta Sports Cup first round, second leg fixture against Lisburn Distillery, manager, Declan Devine was adamant that nothing would be taken for granted.

The ‘Candy Stripes’ recorded a healthy 0-4 victory in the away leg at Grosvenor Road last weekend, however, Devine insists he will field his strongest available team against the Irish League representatives.

“The players are well aware of the fact that those who have played in our pre-season games will have first call on the jersey.

“Yes, we hold a healthy advantage but we can’t afford to take anything for granted. Our priority is to progress in the competition and while we are well placed to do just that, the players still must put in a performance on Monday night.

“I intend to have a full strength team available and, from a player’s viewpoint, the more competitive match time they get under their belts, the better their preparation for the new season,” he claimed.

And Devine will be making contact with local schools this weekend, offering free tickets to pupils for Monday night’s game. (Kick-off: 7.45 p.m.)

“I’m aware that quite a few schools are on their mid-term break at the moment, but we’re attempting to make contact with local schools with the offer of having pupils at the game.

“It’s so important that we keep our links with the local community very strong and, hopefully, children who have yet to watch their home town club in action, will get the opportunity to do just that next Monday night,” he concluded.

Ticket Price Reduction

Admission to Monday night’s game has been reduced to £8 and £4 (concessionary) for access to anywhere in the ground as the “Candy Stripes” continue their preparations for the 2012 season kick-off against Bohemians on Friday, March 2nd.

Tickets are available from the usual selected outlets and the ‘Hole in the Wall’ on the night.

Anyone wishing to purchase a season ticket for the forthcoming Airtricity Premier Division season should contact the Derry City office on 02871 373111.

‘Beat the Banker’ Cancelled.

Meanwhile, Derry City Development Committee yesterday confirmed that their ‘Beat the Banker’ promotion which was due to be staged tomorrow night (Saturday) in the Millenium Forum, has had to be cancelled.

The decision to cancel was due to matters beyond the Committee’s control with both Derry City and the Foyle Hospice advised on the matter. All tickets will be refunded. For more information contact the Derry City Office on 02871 373111.
