DERRY CITY Football Club showed who rules the roost this week as they teamed up with Nando’s restaurant in the city centre to raise funds for local charity, Foyle Search and Rescue.
And the Brandywell club’s big guns were out in force to take over the grills and tills as they served up a spicy treat to customers at the Richmond Centre store on Wednesday afternoon.
Indeed, ‘Candy Stripes’ manager, Kenny Shiels brought along City skipper, Ryan McBride, top striker, Rory Patterson, star midfielder, Aaron McEneff and 2016 Airtricity Premier Division ‘Team of the Year’ goalkeeper, Gerard Doherty to lend their support while Derry City Ladies footballers also cooked up a storm.
It might be the off-season but there’s clearly no rest for the selected Derry City players who took over the popular Portuguese food outlet for what proved to be a flaming good fundraiser.
Chicken is top of the menu for most professional footballers these days but with the off-season diet plans already distributed, there were no chips on the menu for these ‘Peri’ City representatives who were cooped up in the kitchen.
‘Peri peri’ City lend support
They may be big supporters of the successful Nando’s chain of restaurants but on this occasion the tables were turned and it was the City players showing off their culinary skills as they helped the Nando’s staff serve the Derry public - all in the name of charity of course!
Nando’s customers not only got to meet and greet the Derry City players but were waited on by the Brandywell club’s playing staff during the entirety of their shift.
Foyle Search and Rescue chairman, Stephen Twells also go in on the act during what was a hugely successful fundraising effort from all involved.
