Derry born footballer, Paddy McCourt, will enter into negotiations with current club, Glasgow Celtic, over a new contract before the end of this season, The Sunday Journal understands.

Twenty-nine year-old McCourt had been linked with a move to English nPower Championship side, Leeds United, during the January transfer window but nothing materialised.

The winger’s future with Celtic was thrown into even more doubt earlier this month when he was removed from the panel of players put forward to represent Celtic in the Champions League.

McCourt’s current deal with the ‘Hoops’ expires at the end of the season but manager Neil Lennon confirmed on Friday that he intends to hold talks with former Derry City F.C. star over a possible contract extension.

“We will talk to Paddy and his representatives over the next couple of months,” said Lennon.

James McClean

Meanwhile, Derry born Sunderland and Republic of Ireland player, James McClean, has been offered the chance to join Irish folk group ‘The Wolf Tones’ on stage when they appear at the Millennium Forum in Derry on April 13.

Sunderland are due to travel to St. James’ Park to take on rivals Newcastle United on the same day ‘The Wolf Tones’ are to play Derry but with the game scheduled for an afternoon kick-off there’s every possibility that Creggan Heights born, McClean, could make it back to Derry in time.

McClean tweeted that he was listening to ‘The Wolf Tones’ while on his way to yesterday’s game against West Bromwich Albion.

The Dublin based band saw McClean’s tweet and invited the Irish international to appear with them on stage when they come to Derry in April.

“@mcclean23 fancy joining us onstage in Derry on April 13th for Broad Black Brimmer?!,” read the Wolf Tones’ tweet.

“@wolfetones would actually be amazing thanks :),” replied McClean.

Bohs’ ‘Harlem Shake’

Elsewhere, the Airtricity Premier Division hasn’t even started and Dublin side Bohemians are already trying to get one over their rivals Derry City.

‘The Gypsies’ have posted their own version of the internet dance sensation the ‘Harlem Shake’ online.

The Derry City players were the first team in the Airtricity League to get in on the humorous dance but it would appear that their online goings on have brought out an early competitive streak in Aaron Callaghan’s men.
