HILLSBOROUGH SUNK IN EIGHT GOAL BLITZ

Banbridge Town U14s 8 Hillsborough 0

BANBRIDGE Town U14s had an easier than expected route to the Shield second round against an under strength Hillsborough at Dromore.

Both sides played some very attractive football in the first half with the locals having the bulk of possession but failing to capitalise on a number of gilt-edged chances.

The opening finally arrived after half an hour and was well worth the wait. Left-winger Johnny Kernaghan cut inside his marker and unleashed an unstoppable right foot drive into the top corner from all of 25 yards.

If the first half had been an even affair the second was to turn out to be the complete opposite as the Juniors responded to their manager's team talk with five goals in the first 10 minutes.

Andy Mallen picked out Kernaghan with a superb diagonal pass and Jemar Hall eventually forced the ball over the line from Kernaghan's cross.

Oisin Lynch then rounded the keeper and although his shot was blocked Paul Grant was on hand to hammer home the rebound.

A flowing from the back involving Rory Battersby, Jamie Wharton, Mallen and Lynch ended with Battersby acrobatically finding the back of the net with an overhead kick at the back post.

Kernaghan then produced another excellent cross from a left wing free for Nathan Baird to head powerfully home at the near post.

Town made a number of changes at this stage but the goals continued with Paddy Monaghan skipping past his marker and crossing for Mallen to side foot home.

Pass of the day came minutes later as Hall reversed the ball into Mallen's path and he coolly finished first time into the bottom corner.

With Kernaghan having caused all sorts of problems from the left wing all morning he rounded off the scoring in the final minutes scoring direct from a corner, this time from the right flank.
