A super second half display saw Institute cruise to an impressive win over near neighbours Dergview.

Goals from Stephen Curry and a brace a piece from Jamie McIntyre and Kyle Friel Curran means Kevin Deery’s side have only suffered one defeat in their last six games.

Prior to kick-off at Darragh Park, there was impeccably observed minutes silence for Derry City captain Ryan McBride, who tragically died last week.

The Waterside men, who were without suspended captain Stephen O’Donnell, reverted to a back three with Darryl McDermott, Mark Scoltock and Dean Curry slotting in.

In fact, the change in system meant the Waterside men had more attacking options, as wingers Stepehn Curry and McIntyre moved into wing back roles.

Although the deadlock wasn’t broken in the first half, the opening 45 minutes was as usual an entertaining and full blooded affair, with Raymond Foy in particular stamping his authority in centre midfield.

Stute keeper Martin Gallagher made a top draw save to deny Ryan Campbell, diving low to turn the former Stute striker’s effort around the post.

After the break the visitors upped the ante and the goals started to flow, with Curry opening the scoring on 52 minutes, making no mistake turning the ball home from close range.

The home side levelled things virtually straight away with Aaron Arkinson firing home, giving Richard Clarke’s side the perfect response.

Just after the hour mark, McIntyre restored Stute’s lead, the winger picked up a short corner before skipping past his marker and blasting home.

Moments later Gallagher had to make another remarkable save, this time he somehow tipped over Campbell’s point blank range header.

On 72 minutes Andy Devlin and Ryan Morrow came off the bench to replace Dean Curry and Gareth Brown, but those changes didn’t upset Stute’s rhythm, as Friel Curran netted five minutes later.

The ex-Dergview man showed great skill and composure to round Dergview keeper Stefan McCusker and continue his impressive goalscoring run, which has seen him score four goals in his last three starts.

Institute added a fourth on 80 minutes as McIntyre latched onto Michael McCrudden’s super through ball, before calmly dinking the ball over McCusker.

Then in the closing stages, Friel Curran completed the scoring, again breaking the offside trap to score his second on the day.
