THE LEAGUE campaigns opened last weekend in the Saturday Morning League with Premier Division victories for Brandywell Celtic, Creggan, Clooney and Phoenix Swifts.
In the Championship Newton Heath Rocking Chair and Drumahoe all made excellent starts to the new season while Tamnaherin and Red Star had to settle for a point apiece in their game.
In the First Division, Gransha Institute lead the way with two wins from two while Top of the Hill Celtic Youth and Strabane Athletic have also made good starts.
Meanwhile, it was with profound sadness that the league learned that Tristar Boys’ Club founder, Jon Clifford, had passed away on Saturday.
Jon was a great friend of the Saturday Morning League and had been a great servant to the junior game in Derry and the North-West for many years. His club Tristar will certainly mourne his absence and on behalf of the SML, sincere sympathy is extended to the Clifford family circle and his club, Tristar.
May he rest in peace.
