Only one match survived the inclement weather on Sunday with First Division leaders Oxford United Stars taking another step towards promotion when they recorded a big win over Strand United to go seven points clear at the top of the table.

Strand United 0

Oxford Stars 9

First Division leaders Oxford took the lead in the 9th minute when Ryan Devine raced through to score. They doubled that advantage in the 13th minute when Darren Crossan’s superb cross from the left was volleyed past Strand keeper Bernard Doherty by Lee Roddy.

Oxford finished the game as a contest in a 12-minute spell when they netted another four goals. First, Darren Crossan set up Lee Roddy to blast home before an Adam Clarke cross was finished superbly by ‘Man of the Match’ Crossan. Ciaran Villa made it five before Clarke got on the scoresheet with number six. Five minutes from half time Crossan raced through to beat the advancing keeper for number seven.

Oxford took their foot of the gas in the second half but still scored two further goals to complete the route. Clarke got the eighth in the 50th minute before young substitute Dean Boyle rounded off the scoring after a fine build up.

On this display it is difficult to see any side catching Oxford at the top. Top marks to referee Leo Friel for his handling of the match played in difficult conditions.
