Oxford stun Top of the Hill Celtic as holders crash out of Terry Kelly Cup

Oxford United Stars produced the result of the weekend as they sent Terry Kelly Cup holders, Top of the Hill Celtic, crashing out of this year’s competition.

Joining Oxford in the last four will be Abercorn who defeated last season’s finalists, Trojans in a penalty shootout while Campbell’s also progressed after a penalty victory over Tristar. Completing the final four will be Brandywell Harps who have emerged as strong favourites to lift the trophy after navigating their way into the semi-finals following a 3-1 victory over Culmore.

Trojans took the lead on 10 minutes through Gillespie who latched onto a backpass before slotting home.

Abercorn improved in the second half and should have been levelled on a few occasions, however, they had to wait until the 80th minute to equalise when Liddy returned a short clearance first time which flew into the bottom corner from 25 yards. Neither side could find the net during extra-time and it was Abercorn who eventually recorded victory after penalties.
