FORMER Institute and Limavady United midfielder, Ryan McIlmoyle’s decision to swap his football boots for golf spikes is beginning to pay off as he claimed victory in the club stableford competition at Roe Park last Thursday.

The Co. Derry man - a one-time target of Derry City - was forced to call time on his senior footballing career due to a long standing hip injury last year

However, he has clearly found a new home on the golf course after hanging up his boots as he scored two birdies and nine pars on his way to victory with 40 points.

Results - 1, Ryan McIlmoyle 40pts; 2, Kieran Berryman 39; 3, Andy Cameron 37.

Saturday’s Club Stableford results - 1, Shea Hogg 43pts; 2, Nigel Mearns 40; 3, Mervyn Brown 40. The Autumn Pairs, sponsored by Eglinton Construction, continues with Colly Harkin and Martin McVeigh still leading with 162 points.

Alan Dallas and Eamon Barkley lead the chasing pack as they occupy second spot with 158 points.

With only two weeks remaining it’s still all to play for and certainly makes for an exciting finale. The Autumn Pairs League also continues with Club Stableford competitions on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday Meal Deal at North West

Paul McGuigan (Foyle) produced some excellent golf at the Tuesday Meal Deal on November 3rd winning the competition on a break of tie, with 67 gross, from both George McDaid and Dermot Doherty.

Paul recorded birdies on the final four holes that accompanied a birdie at the par-5 ninth and his only blemish was a bogey five at the opening hole. McDaid continues his good form but will no longer receive any “additional” shots over the course. His 20 pts on the back nine must have looked good for a second consecutive win.

Doherty was unfortunate in the three way break of tie and will rue his “blank” at the 12th hole. Results - 1, b.o.t, Paul McGuigan (1) 40pts; 2, George McDaid (19) 40.
