SCARVA COME OUT ON TOP OF ELEVEN GOAL THRILLER

Moneyslane Reserves 5 Scarva Rangers Reserves 6

SCARVA Rangers Reserves survived a late onslaught from Moneyslane Reserves to emerge from the first ever league meeting between the sides with all three points.

The village side appeared to be coasting to victory but the hosts pegged them back in the closing stages before the final whistle stopped the dramatic comeback in its tracks.

Scarva started the game poorly and Moneyslane drew first blood but an excellent Gary Chambers goal put his side back on level terms.

Strike partner Wes Baird was also on target before the interval and the young forward weighed in with a terrific strike in the early stages of the second half to make it 3-1.

Chambers claimed his second goal of the game and then central defender Ernie Hammond rose highest to meet a Wes Baird corner and steered a powerful header past the helpless goalkeeper into the net.

Moneyslane Reserves grabbed a second goal but when Gary Chambers bagged his hat-trick goal, the sixth of the game for Scarva Rangers Reserves, he must have thought the contest was done and dusted.

But a dramatic last ten minutes left him and his team mates living on their nerves. Stephen Rudd was dismissed for handball inside the penalty area and the home side scored the resulting spot kick to make it 6-3.

Two more goals for Moneyslane, including another penalty kick, and the most unlikely of comebacks was suddenly on the cards but, much to Scarva's relief, time just ran out for the home side.

This was Scarva Rangers Reserves' fourth win on the trot. The team is the only unbeaten side in Reserve Division Three and currently sits top of the table.

Best for the village side on Saturday were central midfielder Dawson Jones, making his first appearance of the season, and front pairing Baird and Chambers.
