MATCHES in the Group Stages of the Gilfillan Cup continued last weekend in the North-West Saturday Morning League with fixtures in all eight groups.

In Group 1 Clifton Villa negotiated their way through to the knockout stages after they defeated Creggan Swifts 3-2 in a thrilling game while in the same group Oxford United lost 6-2 to Drumahoe.

In Group 2 Art Deco and HML shared the spoils and in the same group the game between Bentley and Oakleaf also finished in a 1-1 scoreline.

In Group 3 Du Pont progressed to the quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Sion Swifts while in Group 4 the holders, Phoenix, crashed out of the competition as they were beaten 3-2 by Westbank United.

In Group 6 Hatmore Harps lost 5-3 to Collon Celtic while in Group 7 Culmore defeated Newton Heath 3-1 and finally in Group 8 Brandywell Celtic and Rosemount shared the points following a 1-1 result.

Group 8 - Gransha Institute v. Brandywell Celtic (Lisnagelvin No. 2).

Tomorrow (Wed.), Group 7 - Newton Heath v. Strabane Athletic (Lisnagelvin No 4).

Thursday, September 5th - Group 7 - HML v Culmore (Templemore Central).

Saturday, September 7th - Premier Division - Brandywell Celtic v Du Pont (Showgrounds); Strabane Athletic v Westbank United (Strabane); Phoenix swifts v Clooney (Prehen No. 6); Clifton Villa v Creggan Swifts (Lisnagelvin No 1).

The Championship - Newton Heath v Collon Celtic (Templemore Central); Gransha Institute v Art Deco (Prehen No. 1); Tristar v Bentley (St Columb’s No. 2); Drumahoe v Sion Swifts (YMCA).
