Brandywell Harps 1, Oxford United 0
BLAINE McDaid came off the bench to breathe life into the 2014 Terry Kelly Cup Final as his stunning strike secured the trophy for Brandywell Harps in the dying embers of Sunday’s showpiece at Brandywell Stadium.
The Brandywell Harps man was introduced late in the second half by manager, Liam Deery in a desperate attempt to make the breakthrough in what was a dour, tightly contested encounter against a resilient Oxford United.
And his match winning strike came like a bolt from the blue with two minutes remaining in the second period of extra-time to break Oxford hearts and secure a fifth Terry Kelly title for the Brandywell club.
It was Brandywell’s first victory in this competition since the 2008/09 success and it was worth the wait as the final whistle was greeted with joyous scenes at the Lone Moor Road venue.
