Top of the Hill Celtic keep title hopes alive after crucial victory over City

Top of the Hill Celtic were the big winners on Sunday as they kept alive their slim hopes of lifting the Premier Division title with victory over second placed, Derry City.

It was an emphatic win for the Waterside hopefuls who closed the gap on the leading pack while it was a big blow for the young ‘Candy Stripes’ who will have to bounce back quickly to reignite their title push.

It could have been a lot worse for Derry City as leaders, Park Bar were held to a draw by the in-form Brandywell Harps who will still believe they can have an impact in the title race.

Elsewhere, Tristar claimed a high scoring victory over Crescent with Declan Divin netting a brace for the Creggan men.

Abercorn failed to field a team in their match against Trojans, therefore the Creggan men were awarded a 2-0 win while the fixture involving Phoenix and Ballymoor was postponed. In the Culmore derby, it was Culmore who recorded a narrow win over Culmore Colts and in the rearranged Terry Kelly Cup first round match, Oxford defeated Lisahally.

Results - Park Bar 1, Brandywell Harps 1; Top of the Hill Celtic 4, Derry City 0; Trojans 2, Abercorn 0; Crescent 0, Tristar 6; Culmore Colts 1, Culmore 2; Terry Kelly Cup - Oxford 2, Lisahally 1.
