VILLAGE OVERCOME TOUGH TEST AT OXFORD
Oxford 2 Seapatrick FC 4
SEAPATRICK faced their biggest test of the season so far with an away tie to Lurgan side Oxford Utd.
Last year the two league games finished scoreless and the locals were hoping to improve on this statistic.
Seapatrick started brightly creating numerous chances. Sinnamon, Rice, Gallagher and Jones tore the home defence to pieces and it was from one of these incisive attacks that the Village took the lead.
From a quick throw in Gallagher managed to find Jones in the box and he squared for Sinnamon to get his first of four on the day.
This seemed to spur Oxford into attack and they threw everything at the Village defence but it was easily dealt with. Blevins soaked up a lot of the pressure when he collected a few dangerous crosses. At half time the locals found themselves a goal up and comfortable.
The second half began with two goals in ten minutes, the Village scored through Sinnamon when Gallagher and Rice linked to set him free and he finished well in the far corner. Oxford equalised straight from kick off as the Village defence were caught unawares.
Again Seapatrick took the game to Oxford and good work from Peters on the right found Sinnamon and he headed into the bottom corner to give the locals a two goal cushion.
With 15 minutes remaining the game became stretched as Oxford looked to pull a goal back. A long distance drive was well saved by Blevins but the rebounding shot was too powerful for the 'keeper to hold and Oxford did manage to score.
Not willing to lie down or succumb to Oxford's pressure the Village continued to attack seeking to finish the game off, Gallagher again created the opportunity for Sinnamon to burst through the home defence and score his fourth of the day and ninth of the season so far. This was Seapatrick's best team performance of the season and it is encouraging to see they are improving with each game. This week the Village are at home to Portadown BBOB and also have a friendly on Wednesday night against Loughgall at Lakeview Park.
