TYRONE manager Mickey Harte has every sympathy for the predicament his Derry counterpart John Brennan has found himself in.

Michael Wilson reports

Harte’s obvious delight at Sunday’s impressive 12-point victory was tempered slightly by the knowledge that the Derry team Brennan was forced to field in Healy Park was far from a full strength Oak Leaf outfit.

“The victory has to be viewed in light of the injury list that Derry have,” explained the Tyrone manager, “We know we’re not playing the Derry senior team.

“They’ve too many first team players out but at the same time but we can only deal with what is in front of us. We can’t be responsible for the opposition.

“They’ve got to live with that (the injury list) until their men come back but we have to get on with our own business. It is nice to have four points tucked away with this mini-break coming up.”

With many now installing Tyrone as promotion favourites after Sunday’s win built on the away victory in Kildare, Harte wasn’t about to get carried away.

“It looks pretty positive but we won’t be getting carried away by it because you’re only one result away from changing the complexion of how anybody views you as a team.

“People view us as an okay team at the minute and playing decent football but you’ve got to be consistent across the season for any of us to believe that this trend is likely to continue.”

Looking specifically at the Healy Park performance, Harte said he was encouraged his team had not let up after building a commanding half-time lead.

“We had to continue on from our half-time position because of late we have not been good at doing that. We have been sort of slack in either one half or the other and I suppose we needed a bit of consistency across the two halves and we got that,” he added.
