BUNCRANA Golf Club’s leading officials, President Paul Eccles and Captain, Kevin McDermott maintained their progress in the “Lowers” new Mini-League which continues to be hotly contested.

In fact, the quarter-finals were staged last weekend in decent weather conditions with the pairing of the President and Captain seeing off the challenge of Mickey McCann and young Jack Duffy, the winners claiming victory by one hole.Full results from the quarter-finals of the Buncrana Mini-League were - Joe Gallanagh & Seosamh Gallanagh had a walkover against Conor McGlynn & Christopher McCallion; Willie McLaughlin & Andy Doherty (T) defeated Shaun Devlin & Henry McDaid 2&1; Liam Lynch (J) & Mark Porter defeated John Doherty & Sean T. Murphy 5&4 and Kevin McDermott & Paul Eccles defeated Mickey McCann & Jack Duffy, 1 up.

The semi-finals will take place this weekend with the father and son pairing of Joe and Seosamh Gallanagh will now face club Captain Kevin McDermott and club President, Paul Eccles.

In the other semi-final the in-form paring of Andy Doherty (T) & Willie McLaughlin play Liam Lynch (J) & Mark Porter. Both matches

promise to be very close and exciting games.

Meanwhile, there was an 18 holes Open Singles Stableford also staged last weekend - played over Saturday and Sunday - and it proved to be a good result for Buncrana’s Juvenile membership.

Conor McGlynn played some tremendous golf to shoot a fantastic score of 47 points (three over gross) while young Jack Duffy claimed the day prize with a fantastic score of 42 points.

Full results were - Open Singles Stableford - 1, Conor McGlynn (14) 47 points; 2, break of tie, Andrew McIlhinney (24) 45; gross, Pauric O’Flaherty (3) 62; 3, Martin McLaughlin (19) 45; best day, Jack Duffy (15) 42.

This weekend’s competition, which will be played over Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 3rd, will be a Ladies & Gents “Teams of Four” Open Rumble (Stableford) and this event is a fund-raising competition for the Christmas Lights Committee. The organisers of this competition would appreciate a good turnout form the local golfing fraternity.

A new “Find the Joker” fund-raising effort is now up and running again with the jackpot already at E785. There will also be an opportunity to win two extra prizes of E100 each if the joker is not found. Lines cost E2 each and the committee would appreciate it if members would buy a line or even help with the sale of a card.

Mr Kevin McDermott and Mrs Evelyn Smith will stage the annual Captains’ Drive-In this Sunday, March 2nd at 2:30 p.m. with a 9 holes “Mixed Teams of Four Scramble” and all team details have been posted on the clubhouse notice board.

Members please take note that the 2013 competitive calendar will commence on March 2nd and in order for members to participate in competitions they must make their intentions clear in regard to membership.

The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday next, March 5th at 7:00 p.m. sharp and all committee members are requested to attend.

Notes From North-West

Daniel McAteer returned to form at Lisfannon last week when claiming top honours in Tuesday’s Open “Meal Deal” Stableford having returned a fine winning score of 40 point.

Daniel played some superb golf to finish one point clear of runner-up, Joe McGinley.

Full results were - Open “Meal Deal,” Tuesday, February 19th - 1, Daniel McAteer(11) 40 points; 2, Joe McGinley (16) 39.

Meanwhile, in last Saturday’s Confined Sweep, which was played in ideal conditions, Colin Starrett (2) reigned supreme with a superb score of 41 points having survived a break of tie.

Colin produced some fabulous golf, his round included no fewer than five birdies, which saw him relegate both Christopher Hegarty and Philip Doherty to the minor placings on the same score.

Full results were - Saturday, February 23rd, Confined Stableford Sweep - 1, break of tie, Colin Starett (2) 41 points; 2, Christopher Hegarty (18) 41; 3, Philip Doherty (8) 41.

The C.S.S. was 69

The overnight severe frost put paid to Sunday’s Confined Sweep.
