‘Harvest Moon’ and ‘National Trails Day’ Paddles.

Foyle Paddlers Canoe Club are offering members of the public the chance to sample some great canoeing activities over the next two weekends. Join us on two exciting canoe trips - one under moonlight and the other during daylight!

Harvest Moon Paddle

The ‘Harvest Moon Paddle’ on Saturday 29th September, is an opportunity to get out on the majestic river Foyle, on a mysterious moonlit night paddle travelling under Derry’s three bridges. We will be leaving Prehen Boathouse at approx 21.00 and paddling as a group to our destination at Culmore Point.

The cost of the trip, including all equipment and expert guidance from Foyle Paddler’s Club Mark Accredited coaches, will be £20/ family, £10/ Adult & £5/ Junior.

To enrol, simply fill in the ‘Contact us’ section on the club website www.foylepaddlersisfun.net or email secretary@foylepaddlersisfun.net and a FPCC coach will be in touch with the details. However, numbers are unfortunately limited to 20.

National Trails Day

The annual ‘National Trails Day’ on Sunday 7th October is a celebration of Ireland’s wonderful variety of trails and a chance for everyone to enjoy some of our beautiful countryside, forests, mountains, rivers and lakes.

Foyle Paddlers are linking up with Far and Wild who specialise in eco- adventures, to provide an afternoon with a difference. As well as experiencing a relaxed and enjoyable paddle, you will get an insight into the local flora & fauna, natural history and culture along the River Mourne and upper reaches of the River Foyle.

The cost of this trip is free and will begin at Strabane Health Centre Car Park around 11.00 am and last for 3 hours. We plan to travel down the Mourne and out onto the Foyle, past the old metal railway bridges and canal and down to ‘Island More’ in the middle of the Foyle. We will have a picnic on the island, and depending on tides we may paddle back upstream.

If you require further details on this paddle please contact office@cani.org.uk or the CANI office on 02890738884. The on-line booking form must be returned before 5.30pm Wednesday 3rd October.

Both of the above paddles are suitable and open to families and paddlers of all ages and abilities. However, the night paddle is recommended for over 11s. You will need to bring waterproofs and a change of clothes. More experienced paddlers are also welcome to join us on both trips providing they have their own boats & equipment.
