International success for Samurai Uladh

SAMURAI Uladh’s success at both International and National competitions continued recently when members of the local Judo club returned from the Welsh Open with an impressive medal haul.

Nine members of the club travelled to Cardiff for the Open and returned with seven medals in total, including two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Callum Nash led the way with a gold medal in the Under-42kg category while there was a further gold secured by Samurai coach and competitor, Paul Green in the Veterans Under-100kg division.

Despite some strong performances Victoria Colhoun U52kg, Samantha Weir U70kg and Gareth Townley U55kg were outside the medals on this occasion.

The success at the Welsh Open followed several superb performances at the Leinster Open in Dublin where the club won 19 medals in total.

The next competition for Samurai Uladh judoka will be the Irish Open, which is the premier event in the IJA calendar.
