Derry triathlete, Aileen Reid returns to action this weekend as the international triathlon season stars with a bang with the opening ITU World Triathlon Series race in Auckland.
The world’s top female triathetes will be hoping to commence the season with an impressive performance as they bid to become crowned ITU champion.
The eight leg ITU World Series begins tomorrow morning in New Zealand and will finish with the grand final which takes place on the London Olympic course in mid-September.
Culmore Road native, Reid, who now resides in Australia, lines up 8th on the start pontoon while her training partner, Anne Haug of Germany holds the number one spot.
Reid had a promising start in this race last season, exiting the water in second place before suffering a DNF on the bike.
She will be looking to put things right this season and is coming off the back of two solid season openers.
Reid took third in the Devonport Sprint Oceania Championships followed by a 6th place finish in the tough Mooloolaba World Cup.
Reid’s early season run form has been off the pace due to the effects of a knee injury but with four solid weeks run training she will be hoping to regain some of her renowned speed.
