While the recent attention may well have been firmly fixed on the ongoing Road and Cross Country action, last weekend also featured the Irish Schools Multi events championships in the warmth and splendour of the prestigious Athlone Arena.

And City of Derry Spartans athlete, Naomi Morgan competed in the colours of Coleraine High School and did brilliantly to claim the bronze medal in a very competitive Senior Girls event.

Highlighted by a 9.21secs Hurdles and a first ever sub 2mins 30secs 800m, she posted an impressive 3,160 points for the five discipline test.

A poor High Jump performance was a problem but the talented City of Derry athlete had an impressive 2014 and will have delighted her coaches, Jim and Danea Herron, with another quality performance.

Michael Surman, a student at Moville Community School, missed out on a podium finish in the Senior Boys event with a fourth place finish.

And he too enjoyed a good year overall and will be looking ahead to 2015 with renewed confidence in his Multi Event career.
