STRABANE’S popular Lady Captain, Noreen McNally, enjoyed an excellent turnout for his big day on Saturday last.
And with the rain staying away, the large entry enjoyed a fine day for golf with the winner emerging from the first three-ball on the day.
Bernie O’Kane (18) posted a 69 nett score which was not bettered for the remainder of the day.
In fact, this was Bernie’s second Lady Captain’s Prize in recent years having captured the Centenary Year’s award in 2009.
The runner-up was Jennifer Rouse (19) who finished just one shot adrift with Shauna Stewart (13) in third, a further stroke behind on 71.
Mandy Coyne (9) took the gross prize with 81 with Margaret Bonner (28) taking fifth place with a 73. The category winners were Lauren Patton, Heather Mitchell and Mary McGuigan with the ‘nines’ claimed by Caroline Connolly and Olive Turner.
The leading gent was Club Captain, Sean MacIntyre, with 37 points with Eric Reid taking the gents’ 13 holes evening competition with Joe Elliot in second place.

Last week a ladies Open “Teams of Three” competition, in aid of the Foyle Hospice, was won by the trio of Lucia Mullen, Marie Durso and Lynda O’Doherty with 83 points.
In second place was Veronica Harkin, Mary Harkin and Frances McVeigh with 80 points.
Next Thursday, July 5th, the first of the ladies major prizes will be staged with Anne McDermott’s Lady President’s Day.

Results from the Australian Spoons and Daisy Ferguson qualifying competitions, played on Thursday, June 21st - Alison Elkin (12) and Theresa Timlin (21) qualified for the Australian Spoons District Final, having returned a fabulous score of 45 points.
The runners-up were Anne Hamilton (13) and Sarah Hamilton (24), returning a score of 36 points to qualify for the Daisy Ferguson Trophy Final.
The club’s 18 holes stableford competition was won by Roberta Moore (27) with 37 points. Recent 20’s competition - No. 217 - 1, Agnes McLaughlin (19) 35 pts.
Next Thursday the ladies will play for the Margaret Millar Trophy with usual tee times in place.
The Ladies Branch will also host an Open Stableford on Thursday, July 12th next, during the club’s annual Open Week. Those wishing to reserve a tee-time can book online or ring 71-352222.
Due to torrential rain last Friday’s weekly competition at Buncrana was posponed.

The Lady Captain’s Prize to the club’s juveniles will also be staged on Thursday next, July 5th at 10.00 a.m.
Joanne Harkin claimed the Marie Nangle Trophy with an excellent score of 71 nett at Lisfannon on Wednesday.
Playing off a 9 handicap, Joanne played consistent golf with pars at the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 12th not to mention a superb birdie ‘3’ at the 15th to win by three shots from her nearest challenger.
