Brennan posts new four under par course record at Greencastle

Long standing Greencastle member, Maurice Brennan, set a new course record last weekend. Playing in last Saturday’s Gents’ Open Stableford, which attracted close to 150 participants, Maurice returned a four under par score 65.

He completed the front nine in three under and was also one under par on the back nine. In all he carded a total of seven birdies. all he had seven birdies on his card.

His stableford score of 47 points gave him a superb five shot victory over runner-up, Brendan Deehan (19) who is hitting a fine run of form.

Billy Haslett (22) was next best with 41 points and Bernard Kelly won the gross for with one over par.

The ‘nines’ were won by Danny McGonigle and Declan McBay.

In the ladies competition, Hilary McCloy (12) once again burst to the fore when returning 39 points while Margaret Canavan (19) finished second on 35.

Last Sunday’s Open Stableford saw Michael Barron (18) take top honours with 44 points. Michael returned a very steady card with two equal halves of 22 points securing the victory.

The runner-up was Eugene O’Sullivan (16) who had his handicap reduced for the third consecutive competition.

Barry Davey (16) was third on 42 points while “Bee” Kelly again won the gross with a level par score. The ‘nines’ were claimed by Ciaran Kelly (24 pts.) and Eoin Rankin (23 pts).

This weekend,s big competition is Mr. Leo McCauley’s Captains Day and with a full timesheet, the Greencastle fairways will be busy.

This Sunday’s competition is an Open Stableford and a timesheet is in operation.
