NORTH-WEST Golf Club will be a hive of activity this weekend with Mr. John McGinley’s Captain’s Prize followed by the return of much sought after North-West Scratch Cup.
The timesheet for the Captain’s Day is packed which highlights the esteem in which John McGinley is held and while the celebrations will go on into the night, the Lisfannon club’s officials will be on duty 24 hours later with the return of the Total Golf sponsored N.W. Scratch Cup event.
The eagerly awaited return of the once coveted 36 holes competition, tees-off this Sunday and after an absence of 19 years, the honour of striking the first ball inthe Junior Scratch Cup will fall to P. J. McCarron.
In the Senior Scratch Cup former winner, Brian McCarroll, will have that honour.
With the weather forecast suggesting perfect conditions for “links golf,” scoring is expected to be of a high nature.
Indeed, due to recent alterations to the Lisfannon Links - new new bunkers and a longer course - it’s possible that a new course record could be set.
Can Garrett Mallon’s local knowledge help him overcome the tournament favourite, rising star from City of Derry, Kealan Quigg (+2) or can someone else rise to the challenge and secure the prestigious trophy.
Those players not inlcuded on the timesheet who wish to play can come along and they will be facilitated.
