NORTH-West Golf Club’s 2013 Captains staged their annual Drive-In on Sunday morning last at Lisfannon and the event attracted a large attendance to honour the new officials.
Club Captain, John McGinley and Lady Captain, Helen Quigley didn’t disappoint when guiding their drives down the fairway as the large attendance enjoyed a 13 holes team event with the quartet of Jason Spence (5), Terry Meenan (9), David Mugan (10) and Philip Meenan (17) winning with a superb score of 71 points.
In second spot, three points adrift was the team of Jimmy McFadden (14), Tony McElhinney (14), Kevin Daly (15) and Gerry Harkin (16).
Meanwhile, on Saturday last no fewer than 89 players took the fairways to enjoy magnificent conditions in the Confined Stableford Sweep over 18 holes.
With excellent conditions on offer, top scoring proved the order of the day with Martin McCallion recording his maiden victory which was capped when returning a magnificent 25 points for the back nine.
That score saw him take top honours after a four-way break of tie on 42 points.

The C.S.S. was 69.
The undoubted “Shot of the Day” was recorded by the hugely popular Tom Conlon who skilfully “aced” the par three 16th “Fairy” hole and this feat was Tom’s second hole-in-one in eight months!
The first outing of the North-West Seniors Golf Alliance will take place at Rosapenna Golf Club on Friday, March 22nd.

Following his third place finish, Clive Brolly is now firm favourite to lift this year’s “Golfer of the Year” trophy.
Final this weekend
The final of the Mini-League will take place this weekend and it promises to be a veryclosely contested match - the father & son combination of Joe and Seosamh Gallanagh facing Liam Lynch Jnr and Mark Porter.
Joe and Seosamh defeated the pairing of Paul Eccles and Kevin Mc Dermott in the semi-final by one hole while Liam
Lynch Jnr and Mark Porter defeated William McLaughlin and Andy Doherty (T) by 3&2 in
the other semi-final.
There was an 18 hole Open Rumble played last week also and once again the formidable team of Shane Dillon (22), Andrew Mc Ilhinney (24), Gearóid
Doherty (24) and David Hone (24) took first prize with a tremendous score of 105 pts.
In second place, with 99 points, were Hugh Doherty (C) (9), Tony Mc Sherry (15), Sean Mc Menamin (17) and Martin Mc Laughlin (19).
This weekend’s competition, to be played over tomorrow and Sunday, March 10th, is an Open Singles Stableford in aid of the Buncrana St. Patrick’s Day Committee.
The organisers of this competition would appreciate a good turnout form the local golfing fraternity.
Meanwhile, the winners of the Teams of Four Scramble for Mr. Kevin McDermott and Mrs Evelyn Smith Captains’ Drive In were - Jack Duffy (15), BernardDoherty (16), Henry McDaid (18) and Jean Fitzpatrick (21) with 29 points.
Members are asked to note that the competitive calendar has now commenced and in order for members to participate in competitions they must make their intentions clear in regard to membership.
A new “Find the Joker” fund
raising effort is up and running again with the jackpot already at E820.
There will also be an opportunity to win 2 extra prizes of E100 each if the joker is not found, lines cost E2 each.
