A LARGE turnout of North West golfers is expected at Buncrana Golf Club this weekend as club Captain, Ciaran McLaughlin hosts his eagerly anticipated Captain’s Prize.
A popular member of the club committee for the past few years, Mr McLaughlin has quite a few relatives who play in the North West, therefore his Visitors’ Prize event tomorrow will no doubt be keenly contested.
The Captain’s visitors will play tomorrow from 2p.m. onwards and will conclude with a Presentation Dinner and disco on Sunday in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale for E20.00.
The competition last weekend at the club was the W. P. McCarter Memorial Open Stableford which was also a fundraiser for the R.N.L.I.
With all the new bunkers now in play and the course playing to its full potential scoring was always going to be hard.
The best score of the weekend was 40 points recorded by three players. However by virtue of a break of tie Shane Gallivan recorded his second victory within a week.
Shane also won the first mid-week competition on Thursday last with an excellent 42pts.
The full results of the W. P. Mc Carter Memorial Open Stableford are as follows; 1, b.o.t, Shane Gallivan (16) 40pts; 2, Martin McLaughlin (21) 40; Gross, Pauric O’Flaherty (3) 70; 3, John P.
