George Curry (13) once again took the top spot at City of Derry with a fine 42 points in less than perfect conditions in last Saturday’s Subscriber’s Cup, a competition that had been postponed from earlier in the season.
Conditions were tough with wind and rain making the course play to it’s full length. On the day, however, it was Curry who mastered the elements, particularly on the back nine, with a fabulous 25 points, level par gross.
Second place was taken by Declan Burns (24) who was well pleased with his 41 points taking into account his only blank, at the “Water” hole. Incidentally Declan heads to Scotland next week to play in the World One Armed Golfer’s Championship. He takes with him the best wishes of all Prehen members.
Stephen McKeegan (5) had an excellent 39 points for third place, 20 of them coming on the back where he only dropped one shot to par.
The City of Derry Building Society Open Stableford is on offer at Prehen tomorrow (Sat.) with a special section for the ladies and times can be booked on 02871311496 or online at cityofderrygolfclub.com
Meanwhile, the City of Derry Fred Daly team moved smoothly into the next round when defeating Bushfoot by 10.5 to 3.5 matches.
The Prehen club now takes on last year’s champions, Cairndhu, in the next round.
That match must be played before June 10th next.
Luke Hasson, Aaron King, Adam Monaghan, David Knox, Jordan Dunn, Ronan Burn and Conor Given represnted City of Derry at Bushfoot.
