THE annual draws for the various competitions involving Donegal based golf clubs were made at the annual general meeting staged at Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf club last month.
The draws for the three main competitions - The Senior Cup, Donegal League and Donegal Minor League - were made with dates yet to be finalised.
In the prestigious Senior Cup first round, Ballyliffin will play Letterkenny, the winners to face Rosapenna in the quarter-final while Strabane face Ballybofey & Stranorlar, the winners then facing Dunfanaghy in the second quarter-final.
The remaining two quarter-final fixtures in the Senior Cup are - North-West v. Greencastle and Buncrana v. Portsalon.
In the Donegal League North-West play Ballybofey & Stranorlar in a preliminary round tie,the winners to face Cloughaneely while Greencastle face Dunfanaghy in another preliminary round tie, the winners of that fixture to play Cruit Island.
The Donegal League full draw resulted - preliminary round - North-West v. Ballybofey & Stranorlar and Greencastle v. Dunfanaghy.
The remainder of the first round draw is - Buncrana v. Strabane; Rosapenna v. Portsalon; Redcastle v. Letterkenny; Ballyliffin v. Otway; Bundoran v. Donegal and Gweedore v. Narin & Portnoo.
The draw for the first round of the Donegal Minor League resulted as follows - Cruit Island v. Narin & Portnoo; Otway v. Bundoran; Portsalon v. Ballyliffin; North-West v. Buncrana; Ballybofey & Stranorlar v. Rosapenna; Gweedore v. Donegal; Cloughaneely v. Letterkenny and Dunfanaghy v. Greencastle.
Dates for all the above fixtures are expected to be played in May but have yet to be finalised.
Noel’s Remarkable Round
Noel Noone (16) put together a remarkable round last Saturday at Greencastle when claiming the gents singles stableford competition which was played over 13 holes with a score of 34 points. Indeed, on eight of those holes, he recorded three points scores.
The runner-up was club Captain, Philip Devlin (14) with 31 points. Philip has started the year the way he had hoped with pars on 10 of the holes.
The Ladies Singles was won by Eileen Farren (27) who followed up being part of the winning Winter League team with this victory. She returned a score of 26 points.
This weekend’s competitions include a Ladies & Gents Open Stableford tomorrow (Saturday) and a Gents Singles Stableford on Sunday.
The first tee on Sunday has been reserved from 11.10 to 12.00 noon.

The third heat of Masterchef will take place tomorrow (Saturday) with Mr. Captain Páid Sweeney, Ciaran Doherty and John McCarron the contestants. Tickets cost E15 includes appetiser, main course, glass of wine and quiz. Sitting down for 8.00 p.m.

Marian Scheel emerged the convincing winner of the Bring ‘n’ competition on Wednesday with 18 points over nine holes.
The runner- up was Phyl O’Donnell with 14. Next week’s competition will be 13 holes Stableford competition.
