A MEMBER of City of Derry’s talented juvenile players burst to the fore earlier this month with eight handicapper, Luke Hasson, making his mark in the Leinster Boys’ Under-15 Open Championship in Dublin.

Staged at the Beaverstown club in Donabate, Luke finished in joint fourth spot in a field of 250 competitors with a five over par (gross) 78 score, four shots off the winner, S. McGagh (Claremorris GC).

The 15-year-old, a student at Derry’s Oakgrove Integrated College, was also a member of his school team which recently claimed the N. Ireland Inter-Schools’ Championship and he is also a prominent member of the Prehen Club’s high powered Fred Daly Team.

Luke will now compete in the Ulster Boys’ Championships (Under-15s) at Rockmount Golf Club, near Belfast, next month before playing in the Irish Under-15 Championships in Galway, also in August.
