DAVID Forbes survived a break of tie with Faughan Valley colleague and, indeed, last year’s winner, Paul Farren, to secure Mr. Cecil King’s Captain’s Prize at the Campsie club on Saturday last.
On a day in which the weather was not kind to those taking part, the inclement conditions failed to deter the membership from supporting the club’s leading official with in excess of 100 players competing.
Eight handicapper, Forbes, produced the goods to defeat Farren (21) thanks to a superior back nine after both players had carded highly respectable scores of 38 points.

During the presentations, the club’s past President, Mr. Don O’Doherty, was presented with the Clubman of the Year Award.

Tomorrow’s competition is the PFS and Ronnie Parkes Trophy while an Open Stableford is on offer this Sunday, August 5th.

McHugh in Form at
Tie-breaks proved to be the order of the day in last weekend’s Brennan’s Pharmacy Open Stableford at Buncrana, the wet conditions making scoring difficult.
The top score of the weekend was 38 points with in-form five handicapper, Stephen McHugh, claiming the top award having survived the first tie-break.
Stephen shot 18 points over the front nine and raised his game on the way home when adding a further 20 points to amass his winning total.

This weekend’s competition is a fundraiser in aid of Buncrana Amateur Boxing Club and the organisers of this event would appreciate a good turnout from the local golfing fraternity. The competition is an Open Stableford and it will be played over three days - from tomorrow (Saturday) to Monday, August 6th.

The draw for the club’s Mixed Foursomes foursomes competition has now been made and all details have been posted on the Clubhouse Notice Board.
All group stage matches must be played on or before Sunday, August 26th.
The “Find the Joker” fund raising effort continues with the prize fund now at E1,110. Lines cost E2 each and the Committee would appreciate it if members would purchase a line or help with the sale of a card.
