A local sports club has taken an innovative, festive approach to targeting new members for 2016.

Foyle Cycling Club has made available a new voucher that people can purchase as a gift for Christmas.

Club PRO, Ronan Gallagher, said the voucher was printed by local company iPrint and is accompanied by a branded, festive envelope.

“With the increase in the number of people in Derry that are now cycling, we thought it would be a nice idea to encourage people to take that leap and ‘pedal’ their way into the club,” he explained.

“We are not just looking to find new racers. Our club is aimed at both female and male, young and old, fast and slow. If you’re only looking to find similarly-inclined people for a leisurely Saturday or Sunday cycle, then we can definitely encourage that too.”

Although 2015 was marred by the death of a club member in tragic circumstances in October, Gallagher said the year finished on a positive note with Foyle hosting a stage of the Ulster Cyclo-Cross.

“Despite the inclement weather, the Ulster Cyclo-Cross was a fantastic success not just for Foyle Cycling, but for the city too,” added Gallagher, “With almost 300 competitors from all parts of Ireland, Foyle is hopeful that the event will become a permanent fixture in Derry’s sporting calendar.

“As this was the first time the series had come to Derry, we were apprehensive about hosting the event but on the day everything fell into place. St Columb’s Park was a fantastic venue and the feedback from participants has been first class.”

If you want to give someone a year’s membership of Foyle Cycling Club, the special introductory price is £30. Vouchers are available by contacting enquiries@foylecycling.net, or by telephoning Chris on 0773 966 0350 or Ronan at +353 87 649 5537. There is no charge for delivery within the city.
