FOYLE Golf Club’s annual Captains’ Drive-In was staged on Friday evening and the event attracted an entry of 18 teams which competed in a nine holes Scramble after the main event.
Played in excellent conditions, top scoring was the order of the day and full results were - Captains’ Scramble - 1, Joe Flanagan, Kieran Bradley, Ryan Gillen and Martin McCallion, 26.7 nett; 2, Philip Smyth, George Fitzpatrck, Faye McGrotty and John J. Gillespie, 26.75; 3, Jack Quigley, Tommy Bradley, Paul Hegarty and Darren Bradley, 27.1; 4, Kevin Thomas, Sean Lamberton and Nicky Fasson., 27.35.
Meanwhile, the first of the season’s Friday Open Stableford competitions attracted a good entry with Matt Donnell returning an excellent level par round score of 46 points to take top honours.

City of Derry
City of Derry’s regular weekly Thursday Open Stableford was played in very strong winds last week with the fairly modest scores reflecting the difficult conditions.
Master of the windy conditions on this occasion was two handicapper Lester Moore, his round containing no less than four birdies.
Full results were - 1, Lester Moore (2) 38 points; 2, John Chambers (11) 36; 3, break of tie, John Hamilton (7) 34.
Meanwhile, the Club Championship Qualifying took place on Saturday last with the added attraction of double points to be awarded in the City of Derry Building Society sponsored Order of Merit table on offer.
Best of the day was Keith Stott (12) taking the top spot courtesy of a tie break with Kealan Quigg (3) both players returning 69 nett. Kealan’s 72 was also the best gross on the day.
James Kelly (5) finished in third place with a net 70. Thirteen other players qualified for the matchplay stages of the competition and details of the personnel involved and the draw can be found in the men’s locker room.
Next weekend members will be trying to qualify for the prestigious Jock Balmer Fourball match play stage.
Phoenix Golf Society
The Phoenix Golf Society outing, played at Foyle Golf Club on Sunday, April 22nd was won by Niall McDermott with 34 points, one point clear of Eddie McDermott with Norman Kane in third spot on 29 pts.
Paul Sweeney won the front nine with 17 points and Chris Galloway won the back nine with 17 points.
The next outing will take place at Greencastle Golf Club this Saturday, May 5th, with the first tee booked from11:15 a.m. sharp.
