Foyle’s Annual Open Week Enjoying Glorious Weather

Foyle Golf Club’s annual Open Week teed-off on Saturday last in perfect conditions with 220 players gracing the pristine Ballyarnett fairways for the opening competition.

And Anthony Griffin used the favourable conditions to strike a blow for the high handicappers when recording his maiden Open victory albeit after a break of tie decision over Darragh Glynn, both players finishing with 41 points.

Full results were - 1, break of tie, Anthony Griffi (27) 41 points; 2, Darragh Glynn (11) 41; 3, break of tie, Ciaran Mc Guinness (11) 39; gross, Cormac Mc Geady , 34; back nine, Gerald Toland (23) 25; visitor, Gerald McNally (23), Strabane, 38.

Ladies competition winner - 1, Nikki Fallon (32) 39 points.

The annual 18 holes Scramble & Barbeque took place on Friday evening with 18 teams enjoying a very pleasant event.

Results weree - 1, Kevin Dunn, Cormac Mc Geady, Michael Gray and Gay Shaw, 54 nett; 2,

Niall Mc Guinness , Joe Flanagan, Alison Elkin , 55.1; 3, John Duffy, Martin Tope, Ciaran O’Doherty, 55.7.

Club Stableford from Wednesday, July 3rd - 1, John J. Gillespie (24) 44 points; 2, Cormac Mc Geady (4) 40; 3, break of tie, David Ferry (17) 39.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rob Gallagher’s President’s Prize will take place on Saturday, July 20th and all those taking part are asked to enter their names on the sheet provided in the Golf Reception before Monday next, July 15th when the draw for playing partners will be made.

North-West Ladies

Winner of the Inishowen Cup on Wednesday last was Marie McLaughlin on 74 nett.

The runner-up, following a tie-break, was Roisín Timoney, 77 and third was Augusta Neff , 77.

The C.S.S. was 75.

Tomorrow’s competition is the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies Branch and the draw has been posted in the locker room.
