Jason Smyth missed out on qualification for the Commonwealth Games 100m semi-finals after finishing fifth in heat four of the competition at Hampden Park, Glasgow this afternoon (Sunday).

The 27 year-old visually impaired Eglinton sprinter finished his heat in 10.66 seconds, 0.46 seconds behind winner, Kemar Hyman of Cayman Islands.

Hyman finished in 10.20seconds and Antoine Adams of Saint Kitts and Nevis in 10.31seconds to take the top two qualifying spots while Harry Aikines-Aryeety of England and Bruno Matsenjwa of Swaziland finished third and fourth respectively.

Smyth, who was granted a place in the N. Ireland Commonwealth Games squad despite failing to achieve the 10.30seconds qualification time, will now turn his attentions to the 200m and 4x100m relay events this week.
