Greg Roberts (right) made a winning return to competitive action when he posted a sub 32minutes clocking for Saturday night’s Buncrana 10K.
Paddy Mhor Doherty did well on home turf for second and Letterkenny’s Michael Black grabbed third ahead of Paul McCafferty. Marina Campbell took the women’s race honours with a sub 40minute effort and there was a big turnout for the challenging Buncrana course.
Tomorrow night, June 13th it’s the Culmore 5K, race four in the Furey Insurances series and with sponsorship from Neil and Joe Doherty of Joe Jackson Ice Cream/Shakes the Culmore race should attract another good entry from a wide range of running abilities.
Entries will be taken from 6 p.m. at race headquarters, Hollybush Primary School, the race starts at 7.30 p.m. on the Coney Road and the traditional course will be used.
There will be the usual comprehensive range of prizes for the leading finishers and, of course, the generous post-race refreshments, when the race can be dissected at length by the participants. Make sure you get there!
Ultra Success for Hannah
Hannah Shields added to the local weekend running honours with a brilliant third place finish in the gruelling Mournes Way Ultra Marathon, a 52.6 mile endurance event in the hilly county Down terrain.
Hannah completed the course in 10 hours 13 minutes and was reported as saying that she thoroughly enjoyed her “ breath of good fresh mountain air and the good company”.
