NORTH-West Golf will host it’s traditional Hallowe’en Opens this weekend, with an Open Stroke on offer tomorrow, followed by an Open Stableford on Sunday.
These competitions will be played of the white tees and those interested in booking tee-times should ring Gary in the Golf Shop on 00-353-7493-61715.
Meanwhile, in last weekend’s Christmas Fayre event, staged on Saturday, Sean D. Murphy produced the top score of the day, taking full advantage of the glorious sunny conditions.
Full results were - Christmas Fayre - 1, Sean D. Murphy, 44 points; 2, Kevin McGowan, 40.
However, the shot of the day was struck by Jimmy McGee who found the cup with his second shot to the par four index one 7th hole, Jimmy using his trusty seven wood.
In last Sunday’s third round of the Winter League competition, Garrett Mallon (2) linked up with fellow category one player, David McGeough (4), to take top honours with a superb 64 gross.
A birdie at the 2nd hole was followed by eight pars for a front nine of 34 blows.
The fireworks commenced when David recorded birdies at the 10th, 11th and 16th holes before Garrett finished off the round with birdies at the 17th and 18th for a gross 30 and a final score of 45 points.
In second spot was the Lisfannon club’s “Player of the Year,” Stewart McGinlay (2) accompanied by the experienced Eamon Quigley (8), who shot a level par round of 70 which equated to 45 points, bu they lost out following a tie-break.
The format in last weekend’s Owen McDaid (Roe) Minibus & Taxi Hire Winter League was greensomes and quite a few teams found it difficult to adapt to this form of play.
However, the format had no effect on the father and son combination of Cormac and Craig Doherty who played some tremendous golf to shoot a fantastic score of 47 points to claim the weekly prize.
Meanwhile, there will be a break from the Winter League this weekend to facilitate the annual Aileen Hallinan Memorial Teams of Four Open Scramble fundraiser in aid of the Donegal Hospice.
This competition will be played over tomorrow (Saturday), Sunday, October 27th and Monday, October 28th and the organisers of this event would appreciate a good turnout from the local golfing fraternity for this very worthy cause.
The qualifying for the annual Christmas Hamper has now commenced and the entry fee is E4 with a E2 re-entry and it takes 21 points over nine holes to qualify.
The “Find the Joker” fund-raising effort continues with the jackpot already at E920. Lines cost E2 each and the committee would appreciate it if members would buy a line or even help with the sale of a card.
There is also a new membership deal available for new members wishing to join the Buncrana club. Gents pay E305 (£255) and Ladies pay E210 (£175), while members of another club can deduct insurance and G.U.I. levies. This offer runs until to February 2015, a 16 months membership deal.
Desmond Motors Winter League at Foyle
Team 7 , made up of Kieran Bradley, Martin Loughrey, Stevie Moore and Joe Bradley returned another fine score of 92 points for an accumulated total of 186 to hold a two point advantage in the Desmond Motors Winter League at Foyle.

Meanwhile, week three of the Foyle Sunday Society again saw a fine turnout with some excellent scores returned.

Level Par Victory
For Terry in “MEAL DEAL”
A fantastic level par round of 70 by North-West’s eight handicapper, Terry Meenan, gave him a four points victory in the popular Tuesday “Meal Deal” which was staged on October 15th last.
Terry carded an outward nine of 36 before backing that up with an impressive one under par 34 on the way home for an overall total of 44 points.
Columb MacLochlainn (9) posted 40 points to finish in the runners-up spot.
Full results - 1, Terry Meenan (8) 44 points; 2, Columb MacLochlainn (9) 40.
The C.S.S. was 69.
Meanwhile, last Tuesday’s “Meal Deal” competition enjoyed superb conditions and taking advantage of a course in superb condition was Faughan Valley Golf Club’s Brian Nutt who return the top score of 41 points.
Brian finished three shots clear of runner-up, Declan Rennick.
