City of Derry Golf Club will host the prestigous Irish Junior Foursomes Championship for Boys and Girls on Monday, August 20th and also the All-Ireland Boys Inter Provincial Championships on Friday, August 24th.

Both high profile events arrive at Prehen as part of the club’s Centenary Year celebrations and, no doubt, the cream of youth talent in Ireland will take part in these championships.

Full details will be issued nearer the time.

Meanwhile, on the youth front at Prehen, entries are currently being taken for the Austins of the Diamond Junior Open Championship which will be staged at City of Derry on Friday, August 10th.

The entry fee for the Stableford competition is £3 for members and £5 for visitors. For tee-times, please ring the Professional’s Shop on 02871-346369.

The annual Maurice Allen Open Trophy will take place on Friday, August 17th at Prehen and details of that event will be announced later.

Mr. Brian Long’s Centenary President’s Prize for junior members will be staged on Wednesday, August 15th.

Phoenix Golf Society

The Phoenix Golf Society outing, staged at Newtownstewart on Sunday last, July 29th, was won by Tony Crowley, who score of 30 points gave him a two points cushion on the chasing pack.

Full results were - 1, Tony Crowley, 30 points; 2, Niall McDermott, 28; 3, Eddie McDermott, 26; front nine, Paul Sweeney, 17; back nine, John Paul Doherty, 18; visitor, Ciaran McDermott, 45.

Members are reminded that deposits for the annual Captain’s Weekend Away are now overdue.

The next outing will take place to Strabane on Sunday, August 19th at 10.45 a.m.
