FOYLE GOLF Club’s highly successful Open Week came to a conclusion on Saturday with close to 100 competitors taking to the pristine Ballyarnet fairways for the City Cabs sponsored Men’s Stableford.

And it needed a five-way 39 points break of tie to decide the prize winners with 19 handicapper Finbar Logue getting the verdict virtue of his 22 points on the back nine.

Donal Hasson produced an excellent one under par round for his winning nett 66 in the Rankin Machine Tool Services Stroke on Friday having survived a break of tie with runner-up Paul Nicell (17).

City of Derry

Jack McFarland (19) celebrated his maiden win in the popular weekly Thursday Open at City of Derry last Thursday in fine style with an impressive 40 points.

He was followed home on 39 points by Gary Brown (12) whose card had only one real blemish and that was a blank on the ninth.

John Crumlish (6) was best of a trio on 38 points, his fine 22 points on the back nine sealing his position.

Best of the visitors was Stephen Cassidy (10) from Foyle who scored 34 points.

Meanwhile, John Chambers (11) took the honours in the Pearson Foods sponsored Open at Prehen on Saturday.

A quiet enough front nine of 19 points was followed by a fabulous 25 points on the home stretch for a winning total of 44.

Results - 1, John Chambers (11) 44pts; 2, Seamus Given (19) 43; 3, John Parke (8) 42; Gross - Sean Quigg (1) 37; Front 9 - Wilf Donnell (12) 20; Back 9 - Brian Abel (25) 25; Best visitor - Robert Wilson (10) (Cairndhu) 31; Ciara Quigg (16) and Mary O’Doherty (34) took first and second place in the ladies section with 30 and 28 points respectively over the 13 holes played.

Their achievement was remarkable in that they finished in the exact same order in the Northlands open played on the previous Sunday.
