LOCAL Solicitor Jack Quigley (10) claimed the first major prize at Foyle Golf Club in 2012 when winning Mr Rob Gallagher’s President’s Day after a three-way break of tie.

The long time Foyle member’s excellent one under par back nine score of 24 points was enough to top the leaderboard as record numbers turned out on Saturday to enjoy the pristine Ballyarnet course in the driving rain and strong breeze.

Seamus McLaughlin (19) took the runners-up spot while Andrew Temple (14) claimed third as they were made to rue their missed chances on the day.

Jeremy Thatcher (16) claimed the first major win of his career at Prehen on Saturday when taking home Mr Brian Long’s centenary President’s prize.

With over 190 players taking part, competition was intense and it was one of the early starters who set the pace. Jeremy had his 43 points in the bag before noon and then had an anxious wait to see if it could be bettered.

He had no need to worry and duly collected the prestigious prize with a two shot margin over the runner-up Phillip Greer (10) who was seeking back-to-back wins, having claimed the trophy last year.

James Desmond (18) continues to go from strength to strength, finishing third with 40 points on a countback with an unbeatable 24 points on the back nine.

Martin Takes Gareth Adams Memorial

One of the most coveted prizes of the year at Buncrana Golf Club, the Gareth Adams Memorial was played last week and it took a two-way break of a tie to separate the winner.

Martin McLaughlin took first place by virtue of a superior back nine having recorded a very impressive 22 points over the front nine and he managed to hold his game together over the second nine to shoot another 21 points which gave him a winning total of 43 points.

The competition this week is an Open Stableford which is sponsored by the Drift Inn Bar and Restaurant, Buncrana.

The “Find the Joker” fundraising effort is up and running with the prize fund now at E970.00. Lines cost E2 each and the committee would appreciate if members would buy a line or even help with the sale of a card.

The next committee meeting will take place Wednesday, June 13th at 7 p.m. and all committee members are expected to attend.
