Large turnout for Foyle Captain’s Day


THE ESTEEM in which highly popular Foyle Golf Club captain, Kevin Dunne is held was evident on Saturday as over 220 golfers took to the Ballyarnet fairways to celebrate his Captain’s Day.

And with the course in pristine condition on the day, it was 11 handicapper, Jamie Logue who returned an excellent one over par round for his winning score of 46 points to take the coveted Captain’s Prize and by virtue of his win emulated his father Noel and uncle Sean who have won the Captain’s prize at Foyle.

Jamie had three points to spare over runner-up Ryan Doherty (19) who signed for a very fine score of 43 points, and one handicapper Damien McKenna produced a stunning round of five under par for a winning gross score of 41.

Buncrana Open Week

Buncrana Golf Club’s highly successful annual Open Week will be brought to a close today and tomorrow with the conclusion of the Bramble Teams of Four competition sponsored by A.I.B. Buncrana.

The competition this Saturday and Sunday will be an Open Stableford fundraiser in aid of the Buncrana Amateur Boxing Club and the organiser would appreciate a good turnout from the local golfing fraternity.

There is a timesheet in operation and contacting the clubhouse at 0749362279 can reserve a tee time. The qualifiers for the final from the pair’s summer league have until Friday, August 5th to return the final card.

There will be Juvenile lessons for girls starting Tuesday, August 16th at 10 a.m. the cost will be E4 per session and the lessons will be delivered by PGA golf professional, Derek Morrison. Anyone interested can contact the clubhouse and booking would be advisable.

The committee are running a fundraising draw “Find the Joker” lines cost E2 each and the jackpot next week is E1,120.00. The President, Mr. Paul Eccles’ calendar of events will commence Friday, August 12th with the lady members, Thursday, August 18th for juvenile members and Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st for male members. The Presidents Prizes will conclude with a presentation buffet and dance in the clubhouse Sunday, August 21st at 8.30 p.m.
