Maiden City RPS dominate Fed race

RACING just over 140 miles from Roscrea in Co. Tipperary last weekend, the small team of the Coyle Bothers, Mickey and Don (Maiden City RPS), certainly made a big impression when taking top honours.

And fellow club member, Sean McGrotty, also had a good race also as he took 2nd and 4th and the Maiden City club remained dominant with the McGettigan Bros. finishing in 3rd.

Rock member, Eamon Quigley, took 5th with Anthony McCrudden (Derry & District) 6th and 13th and Dunne & Quigley (Maiden City) 7th.

Sean Gallagher & Son (Londonderry) took 8th spot, Robert Lyle (Maiden City) filled 9th, 15th, 17th and 20th with Joe Ebbs (Derry & District) timing birds in 10th, 11th and 16th spots.

W. & D. Hamilton (Rock) took 12th; Sean Duffy (Derry & District) in 14th and Mr. & Mrs. Maxwell (Foyle RPS) finishing in 18th and 19th positions.

Racing this weekend will be from Clonmel.

Derry & District HPS

Top spot in the Derry & District HPS from Roscrea was Anthony McCrudden who has been knocked at the door over the past few weeks. He also timed birds in 4th, 8th and 9th and will be happy with his effort.

Another fancier who enjoyed a good race was Joe Ebbs in 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th with Sean Duffy taking 5th and Colm McConomy in 10th.

Rock Flying Club

Eamon Quigley’s young birds appear to be coming into form at just the right time when claiming the Rock Flying Club’s top honours from Roscrea last weekend and also timing birds in 6th and 7th positions.

Willie and Daren Hamilton also had a good race when filling 2nd, 3rd and 5th positions.

Club secretary, Andy Mitchell, finished 4th while the McMonagle brothers, Jim and Ray, took 8th and 9th spots and the other brother flying on his own, Sean McMonagle, finished in 10th.

Meanwhile, in the previous race from Roscrea, Andy Mitchell reigned supreme with the Shantallow lofts of the McMonagle Bothers taking second position.

D. & W. Hamilton finished in 4th; Tommy White (5th) with Pat Ward 6th Eamon Quigley 7th, Lexie McCloskey in 9th and Fox & Hegartycompleting the result in 10th spot.

The Tullamore race brought poor returns but the Messines Park loft of Willie and Darren Hamilton took top spot. 2nd and 9th positions was Fox & Hegarty with Mickey McCloskey (Lettershandoney) filling 3rd, 5th and 7th places.

Sean Campell fniished in 9th position while Pat Ward was 8th and Tommy White 10th.

Londonderry RPS

Results from last weekend’s race from Roscrea saw the Creggan lofts of S. Gallagher & Son finish well ahead of the field taking the top spot with a further two birds in 3rd and 9th positions.

D & P. Wick claimed the runners-up spot with R. Gallagher in 4th. The remaining positions were filled by A. Boyd (jun) 5th & 6th; A. Boyd (sen.), 7th & 8th and D. Kelly finished 10th.

Maiden City RPS

Last week’s race from Roscrea turned out to be much better than the previous one, although there were still a few empty perches at strike-off.

Leading the Maiden City club were the Coyle brothers, Michael and Don, who continue to hold their own while operating a small team.

2nd and 4th positions were filled by Sean McGrotty with the McGettigan Bros., John and Edward, finishing in third spot.

Completing the top 10 was Robert Lyle who had a great fly when taking 5th, 6th,7th, 8th, 9th and 10th.

The club Lotto remains at £1,000 and last week’s numbers were - 1, 4, 9 and 14.
