Maureen Keys became the latest player to win her first ‘major’ when claiming Kathleen Faulkner’s Lady Presidents Prize on Thursday last at Greencastle.
As expected every lady played, but it was Maureen’s 35 points which was rewarded with top prize. After a break of tie, Pat Donaghy was declared second on 33 points with a better back nine score, leaving Celine Houston in third place. Gemma McClenaghan was the worthy winner of the gross prize with 26 points.
The committee prize was won by Helen Cosgrove and Anne McDermott won the Past Presidents prize. A break of tie was required a second time for the front nine and it resulted in Eileen Farren winning, with Lucia Mullen taking the back nine.
The previous day over 80 gents played for the Lady Presidents Prizes and Shaun McDaid won with a better score of 27 points than Mervyn Baird.
Prehen Mixed Foursomes
The closing date for entries to the annual City of Derry Mixed Foursomes Championships is Saturday, July 27th next.
Entries can be made through the tournament organiser, Ciaran Burke (tel. 028 71 351007) or through the City of Derry Professional’s Shop (tel. 311496).
The preliminary round must be played on or before Wednesday, August 7th next with the matchplay stages runing through the month of August.
The Mixed Foursomes quarter-final, semi-final and Final and the Plate Final will take place on August 28th, 30th and September 1st next.
