McGeady in pole position to capture fourth ‘Golfer of the Year’ title at Foyle

THREE TIMES winner of the P&L Electrics ‘Golfer of the Year’ award at Foyle Golf Club, Cormac McGeady is well poised for a fourth title as he currently shares leadership in the 2015 competition.

With five rounds to play just three points separate the leading contenders with McGeady and Scott Kennedy tied on 376 points and Gary Kennedy just three points adrift in third place.

So it makes for an interesting finish to the prestigious competition at the Ballyarnet club.

Meanwhile with just one round to play in the 2015 Senior ‘Golfer of the Year’ at Foyle, David Stevenson holds a slender three point lead with any one of six contenders in with a realistic chance of winning the coveted title.

Saturday’s Foyle Hospice Charity Open Stableford at Foyle was well supported with strong winds making scoring difficult as Colm McCay struck a blow for the higher handicappers and a first competition win as he returned a fine 39 points winning score, two points clear of runner-up Damien Kivelehan with third placed Cathal O’Donnell a further two points adrift.

Greencastle

North West members featured strongly among the prizes at Greencastle in last Saturday’s Open Stableford for Ladies and Gents.

Gerard Kelly and Charlie Kelly made it a one-two for the visitors while Sean (Bosco) Kelly secured the back nine prize.

While 25 handicapper Charlie began his round with a birdie at the first hole, it was Gerard’s more consistent scoring that won the day on break of tie.

Scoring in Sunday’s Open Stableford for Gents was much more low-key, but Billy Kerr seems to have found the winning formula as he romped home to his second victory in as many weeks.

Steady nines of 21 and 20 respectively gave Billy a two-point cushion over big-hitting Alan Elkin in second place and Jason McLaughlin in third.

The Phoenix golf society outing played at North West Golf Club on Saturday, August 29th and Jim Nicell took top prize. Micky Mallon was second and Norman Kane was third.
