THE FINAL of the Buncrana Mini-League took place last weekend and the pairing of Stephen McLaughlin and Francis McGrory played tremendous golf to record a fantastic score of 50 points.
The format for the final was a Two-Ball Scramble and with Stephen playing some excellent iron shots to the greens and Francis well known for his putting ability, the combination was perfect for returning a high score. Congratulations also to the father and son pairing of Cormac and Craig Doherty who finished runner-ups with 43 points.
The McColgan Family have organised a Memorial Open Stableford in memory of Gareth Adams which commenced on Monday last and will run until this Sunday. All proceeds will be donated to the Scoil Iosagáin Special Needs Classes.
There will be a 3-Days Open Stableford next wek from Tuesday, March 15th to Thursday, March 17th.
Gerry returns to
Gerry Coyle got back to winning ways at Lisfannon on Saturday last when he posted a solid 41 points in the confined stableford competition.
Full results were - Saturday confined stableford - 1, break of tie, Gerry Coyle (12) 41 points; 2, Stephen Fitzpatrick (18) 41; 3, Paul Murray (24) 40.
The C.S.S. was 69.
Meanwhile, on Sunday last a brilliant back nine of 23 points added to his outward nine of 19 points gave Martin Glenn (25) the win in the Confined Stableford event.

Strong winds and wintry showers greeted those who played in last week’s Open Meal Deal on Tuesday and it was a visitor who took the honours, Ballybofey & Stranorlar’s Martin Brogan, returning a superb 38 points.

The C.S.S. was 72.
This weekend’s fixtures are - tomorrow (Saturday), Confined Stableford; Sunday, March 13th, Captains’ Drive-In with a teams of four competition commencing at 1.00 p.m. (shotgun start).
Lady Captain rules
Greencastle’s Lady Captain, Pauline Casey (13), struck early in the season on Saturday last with a huge winning margin of five points. Dropping only two shots to par on the front nine, the back nine was easy as she came home with 38 points. Runner-up to her was Margaret Canavan (19).
In the gents’ competition Brendan McDermott (16), scored extremely well on the front nine (24 points) adding a further 20 on the homeward nine and a two points cushion on the chasing pack.
Runner-up was Thomas Doherty (22) who finished with 42 points. Kevin Lake (14) took the third place with 40 points. The ‘nines’ were won by Paul Harvey and Malachy McGonagle, both with scores of 22 points.
On Sundaytwo players returned scores of 45 points but Declan McBay’s better back nine saw him get the better of Johnny Harvey. Ronan McIvor finish in third with 43 points. The other prizes went to Gavin Harkin (gross, 31 points), Gerry Guckian (front nine, 23 points) and Hugh Craig (back nine, 23 points).
This Saturday is the annual Captains’ Drive-In and the competition format is a Shotgun Scramble. Hugh Casey (Captain), Frank Faulkner (President), Pauline Casey (Lady Captain) and Rosaleen McKinney (Lady President) will tee off at 1.00 p.m.
The timesheet is full for the 1.00 p.m. start, but there are still slots available for the 9.00 a.m. start.
