NUALA Mallon may have recorded her first victory as a member of Ballyliffin Golf Club last weekend, but it was a prize she will cherish forever given that the competition was in memory of her late son, Connor, a former professional at the Inishowen club.

So it was a fitting victory for Nuala who was delighted with her effort on the day, an excellent score of 37 points. Indeed, the presence of the club’s resident professional, Gareth McCausland and Ballyliffin’s general manager, John Farren, also proved positive as Nuala certainly concentrated on every shot.

“I was out with the pro and John Farren, so I had to keep very quiet,” she laughed. “But I’m over the moon winning the Ladies Prizes, obviously it’s was very special and I really did concentrate and try my best on the day,” added Nuala.

And the gents’ winner of the competition was also significant, John Casey a long-standing personal friend of Connor’s from his time as resident professional at Narin & Portnoo, the eight handicapper defeating local member, Pascal Mooney following a break of tie with both players returning excellent scores of 41 points.

The event attracted in excess of 250 players which included special guests and the celebrations continued long into the night following what proved a hugely successful event.
